BS EN 13124-1 is the first part of a two-part series that discusses test methods for determining the explosion resistance of windows, doors and shutters.
BS EN 13124-1 describes a method of test against blast waves generated by using a shock tube facility to simulate a high explosive detonation in the order of 100 kg to 2500 kg TNT at distances from about 35 m to 50 m.
BS EN 13124-1 covers only the behaviour of the complete unit including infill, frame and fixings as tested.
Note: BS EN 13124-1 gives no information on the ability of the surrounding wall or building structure to resist the direct or transmitted forces.
BS EN 13124-1 on test methods for determining the explosion resistance of windows, doors and shutters is useful for:
Blast resistant structures need to be completely blast-proof including the windows, doors, and shutters in them. Failure to do so could result in compromising the structural integrity of the building.
BS EN 13124-1 specifies a conventional test procedure to permit the classification of the explosion resistance of windows, doors and shutters together with their infills. This enables you to identify the explosion resistance of windows, doors and shutters.
