BS EN 17213:2020

What is BS EN 17213 about?  

BS EN 17213 specifies product category rules (PCR) for Type III environmental declarations for windows and pedestrian door sets. 

Windows and pedestrian doorsets additionally providing fire resistance and/or smoke control characteristics according to EN 16034 are also covered by BS EN 17213. Windows that incorporate shutters and shutter boxes or blinds are covered under BS EN 17213. 

BS EN 17213 is to be used in conjunction with EN 15804:2012+A1:2013 as it complements the core rules for the product category defined under EN 15804:2012+A1:2013. 

Under BS EN 17213, the PCR: 

• Defines parameters that are to be declared 
• Describes which stages of a product’s life cycle that are to be considered in the EPD and processes that are to be included in the life cycle stages 
• Defines rules for the development of scenarios 
• Defines conditions for comparison of construction products based on the information provided by EPD 
• Includes rules for calculating the Life Cycle Inventory and the Life Cycle Impact Assessment 
• Includes rules for reporting the predetermined, environmental, and health information that is not covered by Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for the product, construction process, and construction services 

Note: Under BS EN 17213 social and economic performance assessment of the product is not covered.
