BS EN ISO 5817:2007 shares quality levels of imperfections or defects in fusion welded joints. These include unalloyed and alloy steel, nickel, titanium and titanium alloys. The standard applies to materials that are thicker than 0.5mm, and covers fully penetrated butt welds and all fillet welds. BS EN ISO 5817:2007 sets out three quality levels that can be applied to a wide range of welded fabrication. They are designated by symbols B, C and D – with B corresponding to the highest requirements on the finished weld.
This international standard applies to steels; nickel; titanium; manual, mechanised and automatic welding; all welding positions and every type of weld. BS EN ISO 5817 includes normative references, terms, definitions and symbols relating to welded joints, before focussing on the assessment of imperfections.
