BS EN 12897 discusses water supply for storage water heaters. Water heaters shall where require, either be factory fitted, supplied with, or fitted in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions with all devices necessary for the operation of the water heater and the prevention of contamination of the drinking water supply.
BS EN 12897 specifies the constructional and performance requirements and methods of test for indirectly heated, unvented (closed) storage water heaters of up to 2 000 l volume suitable for connection to a water supply at a pressure between 0,05 MPa and 1,0 MPa (0,5 bar and 10 bar), and fitted with control and safety devices designed to prevent the temperature of the stored drinking water from reaching 95 °C.
Note: Whilst storage water heaters intended primarily for direct heating are not covered in BS EN 12897, it does allow the provision of electric heating elements for auxiliary use.
BS EN 12897 on water supply is useful for:
Water quality is one of the factors that contribute most significantly to the long-term performance and longevity of water heating equipment. BS EN 12897 guides you with the construction and performance requirements for a storage water heater.
The heated water can cause corrosion in your water tank and in your plumbing, which can impact the smell, taste, or colour of the water. BS EN 12897 provides you with a test method to assess the performance of your storage water heaters. BS EN 12897 helps you to manufacture durable, high-quality, and cost-effective storage water heaters.
BS EN 12897:2016+A1:2020 supersedes BS EN 12897:2016, which is withdrawn. BS EN 12897:2016+A1:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 12897:2016. These include:
