BS EN 14134 discusses ventilation for buildings. BS EN 14134 specifies checks and measurement methods to verify the fitness for the purpose of installed ventilation systems in dwellings. It can be applied to the commissioning of new systems and performance testing of existing systems. It provides a choice between simple test methods, when sufficient, and extensive measurements, when necessary.
BS EN 14134 deals with functional checks on the system, functional measurements on the system, and special measurements on the system if required. BS EN 14134 has been developed for large scale application and considering the practical conditions of field measurements, no correction regarding ambient conditions is applied to functional measurements.
Note 1: BS EN 14134 is not applicable to heating systems, refrigerating systems their control and electrical power supply systems.
Note 2: BS EN 14134 does not cover the airtightness of the building envelope; the whole dwelling and the individual room ventilation rates can be influenced by air infiltration through the building envelope and the effect of the ventilation system on indoor airspeed within the occupied zone.
