BS ISO 15077:2020

What is ISO 15077 about? 

ISO 15077 is a standard that serves technical specifications for tractors and self-propelled machinery in agriculture, especially operator controls which enables precise designing of these human-machine interfaces. 

ISO 15077 specifies methods of operation and requirements related to manual (for example, hand-, finger-, foot-operated) controls as well as controls associated with virtual terminals intended for a seated operator. ISO 15077 applies to controls installed on agricultural tractors and self-propelled agricultural machinery. ISO 15077 also gives recommendations for the control actuating forces and torques, the direction of motion and the location of these manual controls. 

ISO 15077 specifies the minimum information relevant to manual controls to be provided in the operator's manual, for use as intended by the manufacturer. 

Who is ISO 15077 for? 

ISO 15077 on operator controls for tractors and self-propelled agricultural machinery is applicable to: 

• Manufacturers of agricultural machinery 
• Dealers and importers of agricultural machinery 
• Quality control personnel 

Why should you use ISO 15077? 

Mechanization supports large-scale production and enhances the quality of farm produce, in addition to enhancing production efficiency. However, human involvement is still necessary for different types of agricultural machinery. Operator controls enable the operation and control of agricultural machinery using hands or legs. 

ISO 15077 provides you provisions that were derived from experience, current practice, human factors literature and existing standards that help to enhance the accuracy and operating performance of the agricultural machinery. 

ISO 15077 provides you requirements for operator controls which include identification, foot-operated controls, control actuating forces and toques, direction of motion and location which allows you to enable the precise operational capability for agricultural machinery. 

The guidance in ISO 15077 helps you to ensure the accuracy and operating performance of operator controls for tractors and self-propelled machinery for agriculture. 

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS ISO 15077:2020 supersedes BS ISO 15077:2008, which is now withdrawn. 

Changes in BS ISO 15077:2020 include - 

• Definition for hybrid power source and critical VT operator control has been added and revised in Clause 3 
• In Clause 4, multiple new general requirements are added, a new subclause (4.2) specifically for identification is added, requirements for remote engine starting are added 
• In Annex A, annex has been reorganized for clarity and flow, torque values are added to Table A.1 for rotational controls, addition of new Figure A.1 for clarity 
• In Annex B, reference to AEF 006 is added 
• In Annex C, colour identification numbers have been added to Table C.1
