BS EN 13169 is a European Standard that discusses thermal insulation products for buildings. The main aim of the BS EN 13169 series is to provide manufacturers with best industry practices to demonstrate the performance of thermal insulation products, such that they are fit for their intended use.
BS EN 13169 specifies the requirements for factory made expanded perlite board products (EPB), with or without facings or coatings, which are used for the thermal insulation of buildings. The products are manufactured in the form of boards, multi-layered insulation or composite insulation products.
Products covered by BS EN 13169 are also used in prefabricated thermal insulation systems and composite panels; the performance of systems incorporating these products is not covered.
Note 1: BS EN 13169 does not specify the required level of a given property to be achieved by a product to demonstrate fitness for purpose in a particular application. The levels required for a given application are to be found in regulations or non-conflicting standards.
Note 2: Products with a declared thermal resistance lower than 0,15 m2⋅K/W or a declared thermal conductivity greater than 0,070 W/(m⋅K) at 10 °C are not covered by BS EN 13169. Note 3: BS EN 13169 does not cover in situ insulation products and products intended to be used for the insulation of building equipment and industrial installations.
BS EN 13169 on thermal insulation products is relevant to:
EPB is a rigid insulation board manufactured from expanded perlite, reinforcing fibres and binding agents, which may be delivered as a board or as two or more boards bonded together with a suitable adhesive. The main purpose of EPB is to offer effective thermal insulation to buildings by reducing heat transmission.
In this regard, BS EN 13169 provides best industry recommendations on product characteristics and includes procedures for testing, evaluation of conformity, marking and labelling of EPB products.
BS EN 13169 also covers guidance on Assessment and Verification of the Constancy of Performance (AVCP) that ensures your products conform with the requirements.
Moreover, by determining the declared values of thermal resistance and thermal conductivity with BS EN 13169 guidance, you can ensure the EPB products offer adequate insulation, at not unreasonable thicknesses.
Thus, if you are a manufacturer of factory-made EPB products for thermal insulation, complying with BS EN 13169 can help demonstrate the performance and credibility of your product, ensuring that they are fit for purpose.
BS EN 13169:2012+A1:2015 supersedes BS EN 13169:2012 and EN 13169:2008. As compared to EN 13169:2008 the main changes are:
