BS EN 14306 is a European Standard that discusses thermal insulation products for buildings. The main aim of the BS EN 14306 series is to provide manufacturers with best industry practices to demonstrate the performance of thermal insulation products, such that they are fit for its intended use.
BS EN 14306 specifies the requirements for factory made calcium silicate (CS) products which are used for the thermal insulation of building equipment and industrial installations with an operating temperature range of approximately - 170 °C to + 1 100 °C.
The products are manufactured in the form of boards, pipe sections, segments and prefabricated ware. Products covered by BS EN 14306 are also used in prefabricated thermal insulation systems and composite panels; the structural performance of systems incorporating these products is not covered.
Note 1: BS EN 14306 does not specify the required level or class of a given property that should be achieved by a product to demonstrate fitness for purpose in a particular application. The levels required for a given application can be found in regulations and invitations to tender.
Note 2: Products with a declared thermal conductivity greater than 0,6 W/(m·K) at 10 °C are not covered by BS EN 14306.
Note 3: BS EN 14306 does not cover products intended to be used for the insulation of the building structure.
Note 4: BS EN 14306 does not cover the following acoustical aspects: direct airborne sound insulation and impact noise transmission index.
BS EN 14306 on thermal insulation products is relevant to:
A CS product is a thermal insulation product that can sustain continuous high working temperatures. It provides outstanding thermal insulation and fire protection for a wide range of applications while preserving structural integrity in the face of high temperatures and fire.
This makes them an extremely reliable and efficient barrier against heat, fire, smoke or gas, and will save lives and assets in case of fire.
BS EN 14306 provides best industry recommendations on product characteristics and includes procedures for testing, evaluation of conformity, marking and labelling of CS products.
The classes of dimensional tolerances are specified in BS EN 14306 giving measures of length and width, thickness, squareness and flatness.
BS EN 14306 also covers guidance on Assessment and Verification of the Constancy of Performance (AVCP) that ensures your products conform with the requirements.
Thus, if you are a manufacturer of factory made CS products for thermal insulation, complying with BS EN 14306 can help demonstrate the performance and credibility of your product, ensuring that they are fit for purpose.
BS EN 14306:2015 supersedes EN 14306:2009+A1:2013. BS EN 14306:2015 includes some technical changes with respect to EN 14306:2009+A1:2013. These include:
