BS 5970:2012 is a code of practice that gives recommendations for selecting thermal insulation systems for pipework, ductwork, associated equipment and other industrial installations.
Combustion of fossil fuel is a major cause of the greenhouse effect, the term given to global warming caused by the build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere - principally carbon dioxide, which inhibits the re-radiation of heat from the earth. The application of thermal insulation can help reduce these greenhouse gases. This standard covers issues such as site consideration, design of materials, application methods and post installation inspection and maintenance.
NOTE: BS 5970:2012 explains the basic principles for selecting insulation systems for specific requirements but it is not practical to deal with every possible combination of insulating material and finish. Therefore, only general principles are indicated.
