ISO 21915-1 specifies the identification methods of cupro and lyocell by scanning electron microscope and infrared spectrum analysis.
ISO 21915-1 is the first part of the ISO 21915 multi-series, and specifies the qualitative analysis for cupro and lyocell using the two methods separately:

Products as varied as denim, dress shirts, innerwear, towels, conveyor belts, medical dressings, specialty paper, and other light, intimate apparel involve the use of cupro and lyocell fibres. Cupro and lyocell are regenerated cellulose fibres and contribute to a sustainable society in that raw materials are not derived from petroleum.
The qualitative and quantitative determination of fibres is important for the distribution of textile products. It is usually difficult to identify if the fibre is cupro or lyocell because the characteristics of appearance, chemical resistance, infrared spectroscopy (IR) spectrum, etc. are almost the same.
The identification methods between cupro and lyocell are specified in ISO 21915-1 with the new technical aspects as follows:
While cupro production involves large quantities of copper, ammonia, and caustic soda, lyocell fabric involves the use of a direct solvent that doesn't cause any significant chemical changes to the chemical structure of cellulose. Besides being strong, lyocell is more resistant to pilling than cotton. Fibre identification allows you to make an informed choice based on these characteristics.
