ISO 3175-6 is the sixth part of the series that specifies dry cleaning procedures for decamethylpentacyclosiloxane (D5) using commercial dry-cleaning machines, for fabrics and garments. It comprises procedures for normal and sensitive materials.

Dry cleaning is a process for cleaning textiles in an organic solvent that dissolves oils and fats and disperse particulate dirt substantially without the swelling and creasing associated with washing or wet cleaning. At present, in dry cleaning, one of the solvents used is D5. Dry cleaning detergents consist of surfactants, co-solvents, lubricants, antistatic compounds, and water. They are used in order to increase the cleaning efficiency, to improve the handling of dry-cleaned textiles and to prevent against electrostatic charge on textiles.
ISO 3175-6 specifies drycleaning procedures for D5. Since properties of the textile or garment may change progressively on drycleaning and steaming and/or pressing, complying with ISO 3175-6 procedure can help determine the useful life of the textile or garment. It also provides different procedures for normal and sensitive materials.
