BS EN 1097 discusses tests for mechanical and physical properties of aggregates. BS EN 1097-6 is the sixth part of the BS EN 1097 multi-series.
BS EN 1097-6 specifies the reference methods used for type testing and in case of dispute, for the determination of particle density and water absorption of normal weight and lightweight aggregates.
BS EN 1097-6 on the particle density and water absorption of normal weight and lightweight aggregates is useful for:
Particle density is calculated from the ratio of mass to volume. The mass is determined by weighing the test portion in the saturated and surface-dry condition and again in the oven-dry condition. Volume is determined from the mass of the water displaced, either by a mass reduction in the wire basket method or by weighings in the pyknometer method.
BS EN 1097-6 provides you with the wire basket method for aggregate particles retained on the 31,5 mm sieve, a pyknometer method for aggregate particles passing the 31,5 mm sieve and retained on the 4 mm sieve and a pyknometer method for aggregate particles passing the 4 mm sieve and retained on the 0,063 mm sieve. BS EN 1097-6 helps you to determine the particle density and water absorption of normal weight and lightweight aggregates.
BS EN 1097-6:2022 supersedes BS EN 1097‑6:2013, which is withdrawn. BS EN 1097-6:2022 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 1097‑6:2013. These include:
