ISO 6481 specifies, with reference to ISO 230-1, the geometric tests on surface type broaching machines with vertical Z-axis providing the main cutting motion. ISO 6481 specifies the applicable tolerances corresponding to the tests mentioned above for normal accuracy vertical surface-type broaching machines.
ISO 6481 explains different concepts or configurations and common features of vertical surface type broaching machines. ISO 6481 provides related terminology and designation of axes. ISO 6481 deals only with the verification of the accuracy of the broaching machine.
Note: ISO 6481 does not apply to the operational testing of the broaching machine (e.g. vibration, abnormal noise, stick-slip motion of components), nor to broaching machine characteristics (e.g. speeds, feeds) as such checks are generally carried out before testing the accuracy.
ISO 6481 on test conditions for broaching machines is useful for:
The object of ISO 6481 is to supply information as wide and comprehensive as possible on tests on vertical surface type broaching machines which can be carried out for comparison, acceptance, maintenance or any other purposes.
A broaching machine is a tool used to finish surfaces by drawing or pushing a broach cutter completely over and past the surface. A broach is made up of a row or rows of cutting teeth that are graded in height from the teeth that cut first to the teeth that cut last. ISO 6481 establishes the tolerances for the test results corresponding to general purpose and normal accuracy vertical surface type broaching machines.
