BS EN 13094 is a document on tanks for the transport of dangerous goods. BS EN 13094 specifies requirements for the design and construction of metallic gravity-discharge tanks. These tanks are intended for the carriage of substances having a vapour pressure not exceeding 110 kPa (1,1 bar) (absolute pressure) at 50 °C.
BS EN 13094 specifies requirements for openings, closures, pipework, mountings for service equipment and structural equipment.
BS EN 13094 is applicable to aircraft refuelers that are used on public roads and inter-modal tanks (e.g., tank containers and tank swap bodies) for the transport of dangerous goods by road and rail.
Note 1: BS EN 13094 does not specify requirements for items of service equipment other than pipes passing through the shell.
Note 2: BS EN 13094 is not applicable to fixed rail tank wagons.
BS EN 13094 on tanks for the transport of dangerous goods are useful for:
BS EN 13094:2020 implementation on tanks for the transport of dangerous goods gives detailed information on metallic gravity-discharge tanks. The metallic gravity-discharge tanks store dangerous chemicals at atmospheric pressure and distribute them through gravity flow using a downward distribution system.
Materials used in the construction of shells of metallic gravity-discharge tanks is ferritic steel, austenitic steel, austenitic-ferritic stainless steel or aluminium alloy material standards published by a national or international standards body.
Gravity-discharge tanks described in BS EN 13094 have no maximum working pressure so the industry implementing this type of tank have the benefit of storing chemicals without any concerns for leakage.
BS EN 13094:2020 supersedes BS EN 13094:2015. BS EN 13094:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 13094:2015. These include:
