BS EN 60669-2-6 is a part of IEC 60669 series that is applicable to fireman's switches used for the breaking of the low voltage circuits for exterior and interior signs and luminaires e.g. neon signs for a.c. only with a rated voltage not exceeding 440 V and a rated current not exceeding 125 A. Fireman’s switches complying with BS EN 60669-2-6 are suitable for use between –25 °C and +70 °C.
Note: Fireman’s switches are designed for overvoltage category III and used in the environment of pollution degree 2 according to IEC 60664-1.
BS EN 60669-2-6 on exterior and interior signs and luminaires fireman's switches requirements is useful for:
The fireman switch is a switch-disconnector/isolator that disconnects power from high or low-voltage devices that could be potentially harmful. These switches can be found on the outer walls of business buildings. They're made to be easily visible and are used by firefighters to turn off neon lighting and other potentially dangerous electrical equipment in the event of a fire.
BS EN 60669-2-6 provides users with guidelines for the classification, protection against electric shock, provision for earthing, constructional requirements and addresses the resistance to aging, protection provided by enclosures of switches, and resistance to humidity. Using BS EN 60669-2-6 guidelines helps with domestic electrical installation, and electrical testing and enhances safety and protection for its users.
