BS EN 12385-1 is a series of the European standard on steel wire ropes that discusses the safety requirements of steel wire rope.
BS EN 12385-1 specifies the general requirements for the manufacture and testing of steel wire rope, whose particular requirements are specified in the other Parts.

Steel wire rope is several strands of metal wire twisted into a helix forming a composite rope, in a pattern known as laid rope. Larger diameter wire rope consists of multiple strands of such laid rope in a pattern known as cable laid. BS EN 12385-1 provides information on a list of hazards, safety requirements and/or measures, verification of safety requirements and/or measures.
