BS 4656 is a British standard that discusses the specifications for the accuracy of machine tools and methods of tests. BS 4656-10 is the tenth part of the multi-part series that outlines both geometrical and practical tests for drilling machines of the radial type and gives corresponding permissible deviations.
BS 4656-10 applies to machines of general-purpose use and normal accuracy. BS 4656-10 deals only with the verification of the accuracy of the machine.
Note: BS 4656-10 does not apply to the testing of the running of the machine (vibrations, abnormal noises, the stick-slip motion of components, etc.), nor to its characteristics (speeds, feeds, etc.) which should generally be checked before testing accuracy.
