What’s changed since the last update?

Changes in BS 1196:1989 include: 

• Limits have been introduced for the variation from the manufacturer’s stated nominal value of the branch angle of junctions. It is now permissible for the strength of junctions to be assessed from the test results for pipes produced in the same plant and using the same materials and process. Alternatively, short lengths of pipes, not less than 0.3 m in length, maybe made and tested for this purpose. 
• In place of the clause on sampling for tests given in BS 1196:1971, an appendix has been added giving advice on optional sampling and tests to be agreed upon between the manufacturer and purchaser. 
• A marking clause has been added to facilitate identification for compliance and certification
