Welding procedure qualification is about demonstrating that a proposed joining process is going to produce joints that are adequate for the intended application. The second in a series of 12 international welding qualification standards, BS EN ISO 15614-2:2025 is specifically concerned with testing procedures for the arc welding of aluminium and its alloys.
Engineers, welding engineers, structural engineers, engineering managers and manufacturers in:
It specifies how a preliminary welding procedure specification (pWPS) is qualified by welding procedure tests. It defines the conditions for the execution of welding procedure tests and the range of qualifications for welding procedures for all practical welding operations within the range of variables.
BS EN ISO 15614-2 applies to the arc welding of wrought and cast aluminium and its alloys. It does not apply to finishing welding of aluminium castings.
The principles in BS EN ISO 15614-2:2025 may be applied to other fusion welding processes.
This is a technical revision of BS EN ISO 15614-2:2005. BS EN 15713:2025 has been updated and brought in line with other recently published documents in the series. Normative references have also been updated throughout.
