ISO 9454-2 is the second part of a multi-series standard that covers the soft soldering fluxes.
ISO 9454‑2 specifies the terms, definitions, performance requirements for fluxes, flux conditions in solid, liquid, and paste forms intended for use with soft solders.
Note 1: Some of the fluxes intended for inert gas and vapor phase soldering may not pass some of the criteria in ISO 9454‑2.
Note 2: Requirements for these fluxes are agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier.
ISO 9454‑2 on soft soldering fluxes applicable to:
Fluxes aid molten solder in wetting metal surfaces to be bonded by removing oxides and other impurities from the solder and the parts' surfaces during soldering. Selection of a soft soldering flux for a particular application is important, in order to ensure an adequate service life of the welded joints and assembly.
ISO 9454‑2 helps you with the guidelines to increase the efficiency and performance of fluxes intended to use with soft solders for welded joints and assemblies. It helps you prevent surfaces from oxidation and help molten solder moisten the base metals.
ISO 94542-2 gives you specifications for factors such as residue removal ease, corrosiveness, and flux efficacy, all of which must be considered when designing and manufacturing fluxes. It also gives you provisions for potential health and safety hazards, which helps you to improve the quality of metallic welded joints and assemblies.
