BS EN ISO 11591:2020

What is ISO 11591 about?  

ISO 11591 specifies requirements for the field of vision from the steering position, forward (horizontally and vertically) and astern, for small craft up to 24 m length of hull (LH) in accordance with ISO 8666.  

Who is ISO 11591 for?  

ISO 11591 on small crafts is applicable to: 

• Crafts manufacturer

• Water transport engineering component manufacturer 

Why should you use ISO 11591?  

An efficient steering system ensures the operator can guide and manouver the craft efficiently, so as to maintain directional stability and operational safety.  

ISO 11591 ensures the operators vision does not get obstructed due to variables such as speed, loading and load distributions, sea conditions. 

ISO 11591 provides warnings to the operators if the fields of vision do not meet the requirements. Warnings can then be easily identified by the operators. 

Overall, ISO 11591 avoids the risk of overall application failure that could lead to serious accidents. 

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN ISO 11591:2019 is the fourth edition that replaces the third edition (ISO 11591:2019), of which it constitutes a minor revision. The change compared to the previous edition is:
