BS EN 12274-3 is the third part of the BS EN 12274 series of standards that discusses slurry surfacing. BS EN 12274-3 specifies a test method for determining the consistency of slurry surfacing mixtures. This test is dedicated to Slurry Seals (D ≤ 4mm).
Note1: BS EN 12274-3 can be used as a mixed design aid to determine the amount of water required to form a stable, workable mixture.
Note2: To obtain the correct consistency, BS EN 12274-3 can be necessary to repeat the test with different known percentages of water.
Note3: BS EN 12274-3 applies to slurry surfacing for roads, airfields, and other trafficked areas.
BS EN 12274-3 on the determining the consistency of slurry surfacing mixtures is useful for:
Water forms an important part of a stable slurry and its percentage of the total mix is a major factor determining the consistency of the mix.
BS EN 12274-3 specifies a test method for determining the consistency of slurry surfacing mixtures that helps to check the right quantity of water to be added in the mixture.
BS EN 12274-3 will ensure that the slurry is not too dry that it cannot be mixed uniformly or too thin that will have inadequate viscosity to remain homogenous.
BS EN 12274-3:2018 supersedes BS EN 12274‑3:2002, which is withdrawn.
BS EN 12274-3:2018 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 12274‑3:2002.
