This British Standard is the UK implementation of ISO 799‑2:2021.

The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical Committee SME/32, Ships and marine technology - Steering committee.

A list of organizations represented on this committee can be obtained on request to its committee manager.

The UK committee advises users that the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency considers the instructions in this standard require measures, resources and restrictions that are in excess of the requirements of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention. The UK committee therefore recommends that users consult the SOLAS Convention when applying this standard.

Introduction

This document supplements the IMO requirements for pilot ladders, since IMO instruments do not include specific requirements for manufacturers to supply guidance on maintenance, storage and use of pilot ladders. The inclusion of this guidance was considered necessary in order to ensure that pilot ladders are kept in a condition consistent with the requirements of IMO instruments and ISO 799‑1.
