ISO 21131 specifies noise limits, noise measurement methods, and hearing protection for marine cranes, including electro-hydraulic cylinder luffing cranes, electro-hydraulic wire rope luffing cranes, and electric wire rope luffing cranes.
Note: ISO 21131 is applicable to the noise assessment of marine cranes and for the protection of their operators.
ISO 21131 on noise limit on marine cranes is useful for:
There is continuous noise on marine cranes which has an adverse effect on human health. Noise level limits are defined to protect against injury resulting from noise level and exposure duration. ISO 21131 provides noise level limits and maximum exposure duration for different noise areas in marine cranes. ISO 21131 provides a method for noise level measurements using an integral sound level meter meeting the requirements of BS IEC 61672-1 or an equivalent standard recognised by national regulation.
This will ensure the noise limits are maintained and do not exceed the limit causing harm to operators. ISO 21131 also ensures that the areas where the noise limit is exceeding shall be equipped with hearing protection and safety signs in these locations.
