BS EN IEC 61960‑4 is the fourth part of a multi-series standard. It details requirements for lithium cells and batteries which ensures operational stability, safety and longevity for battery applications.
BS EN IEC 61960‑4 specifies performance tests, designations, markings, dimensions and other requirements for coin secondary lithium cells and batteries for portable applications and backup power supply such as memory backup applications.
BS EN IEC 61960‑4 provides the purchasers and users of coin secondary lithium cells and batteries with a set of criteria with which they can assess the performance of coin secondary lithium cells and batteries offered by various manufacturers.
BS EN IEC 61960‑4 defines a minimum required level of performance and a standardized methodology by which testing is performed and the results of this testing reported to the user.
BS EN IEC 61960‑4 covers coin secondary lithium cells and batteries with a range of chemistries. Each electrochemical couple has a characteristic voltage range over which, during discharge, it releases its electrical capacity, a characteristic nominal voltage and a characteristic end of discharge voltage.
BS EN IEC 61960‑4 on lithium cells and batteries is applicable to:
Lithium batteries are made of four components – separator, anode, cathode, electrolyte. Lithium batteries have wide applications in electronics such as mobiles, power tools, electric vehicles and energy storage. Lithium batteries offer advantages such as charge efficiency, long life span and improved discharge.
BS EN IEC 61960‑4 provides you guidelines on electrical tests which includes charging procedure, discharge performance, charge capacity, endurance in cycles and battery internal resistance which ensures the safety and efficiency of lithium cells and batteries.
BS EN IEC 61960‑4 also provides you guidelines on parameter measurements, cell designation, electrical tests, differentiation, dimensional characteristics, sequence of tests which ensures the longer life cycle and temperature resistance of batteries.
Users of BS EN IEC 61960‑4 can ensure the safety, maintenance and efficiency of lithium cells and batteries for portable applications.
A Commented Version (CMV) of this standard is available here. Please note, the CMV of the standard is not adopted, and therefore doesn’t contain an additional national foreword, or national annex that might be contained in the BS adoption of the standard. However the IEC text that forms the content of the standard is identical to the BS adoption of the standard.
Commented Versions (CMVs) are specialized publications featuring detailed commentary from technical experts on the major changes between the new edition of a standard and the previous one. Comments may include an explanation for the changes as well as information on the impact of these changes on the application and usability of the standard.
