BS EN 12929 is a European standard that discusses cableway installations designed to carry persons. BS EN 12929-1 provides general requirements for all installations to ensure the safety of workers.
BS EN 12929-1 is the first part of a multi-part series that outlines the general regulations for safety requirements for cableway installations designed to carry persons. Supplementary safety requirements for reversible bi-cable aerial ropeways without carrier truck brakes are established in EN 12929-2.
BS EN 12929-1 elaborates general technical characteristics and prescribes design principles and general safety requirements.
BS EN 12929-1 includes requirements relating to the prevention of accidents and the protection of workers irrespective of the application of national regulations.
Note 1: BS EN 12929-1 does not deal with details of operation and maintenance, calculations, and detailed requirements for the manufacture of components.
Note 2: National regulations of a building or federal/state nature or which serve to protect groups of people remain unaffected.
Note 3: BS EN 12929-1 may not always be possible for all types of cableway installation to transport all groups of people (e.g., persons with restricted mobility). The objective should be, however, for a cableway installation to enable the transportation of the largest possible passenger population.
Note 4: BS EN 12929-1 does not apply to cableway installations for the transportation of goods or to lifts.
BS EN 12929-1 on general requirements for all installations is useful for:
A cableway designed to carry persons is a system for hoisting and hauling, consisting of a cable suspended between two towers, on which travels a carriage from which bucket is suspended.
BS EN 12929-1 guideline assists you with safety principles, general requirements for the protection of workers, line, line profile, limit profile, clearance profile, safety distances, track gauge, operating speed, intervals, drive system (including brakes), passageways, work areas, rope tension, recovery, evacuation, miscellaneous, and funicular railways with automatic operation for cableway installations designed to carry persons.
This supports efficient installation of the cableway designed to carry persons and with proper guidelines supports in operating and functioning of the cableway.
In addition, ensures the safety of workers and a safe environment to work.
BS EN 12929-1:2015 supersedes EN 12929-1:2004, which is withdrawn. BS EN 12929-1:2015 has some technical changes compared to EN 12929-1:2004. These include:
