What is this standard about?
BS ISO 13849-2:2012 specifies the procedures and conditions to be followed for the validation of specified safety functions through analysis and testing in accordance with ISO 13849-1.
The standard specifies the procedures and conditions that should be followed to validate equipment safety and the safety related parts of control systems. This is achieved through the analysis and testing of the safety functions provided based on the rationale of the designer.
How does it work?
BS EN ISO 13849-2 first looks at the validation process, covering the validation principles, generic fault lists, as well as validation plans and records. It then explains validation by analysis, testing and safety devices and measures whilst considering environmental and maintenance requirements.
The analysis should be started as early as possible in, and in parallel with, the design process. Problems can then be corrected early while they are still relatively easy to correct.
