BS EN 115 discusses the safety of escalators and moving walks. BS EN 115-2 is the second part of a multi-series BS EN 115 and discusses the improvement of the safety of existing escalators and moving walks.
BS EN 115-2 gives rules for improving the safety of existing escalators and moving walks with the aim of reaching an equivalent level of safety to that of a newly installed escalator and moving walk by the application of today’s state of the art for safety.
BS EN 115-2 includes the improvement of the safety of existing escalators and moving walks for:
Users, maintenance and inspection personnel, persons outside the escalator or moving walk (but in its immediate vicinity), and authorized persons.

BS EN 115-2 on Safety of escalators and moving walks is applicable to:
Escalators and moving walks were installed to the safety level appropriate at that time. This level is less than today’s state-of-the-art for safety. If all existing escalators and moving walks are not upgraded to today's safety standards the number of injuries will increase.

BS EN 115-2 is intended to provide corrective actions to improve progressively and selectively, step by step, the safety of all existing escalators and moving walks in your building towards today’s state of the art for safety.
BS EN 115-2 enables you to audit each escalator and moving walk and identify and implement safety measures in a step-by-step and selective fashion according to the frequency and severity
of any single risk. BS EN 115-2 lists the high, medium, and low risks and corrective actions that can be applied in separate steps to mitigate the risks.
