BS EN 60519 is a European standard series that discusses safety in electroheat installations. The object of BS EN 60519-9 is to provide requirements for high-frequency dielectric heating installations to ensure the installations are safe, reliable and effective for use.
BS EN 60519-9 is the nineth part of the IEC 60519 series that is applicable to industrial high-frequency dielectric heating installations for the purpose of thermal applications such as melting, drying, welding, insect extermination, and gluing of partially or non-conductive materials such as plastics, wood, rubber, textiles, glass, ceramic, paper, bamboo, foodstuffs, etc. in both normal and protective atmospheres, using, for example, inert gases or vacuum.
BS EN 60519-9 relates to high-frequency dielectric heating installations with nominal frequency in the range from 1 MHz to 300 MHz with rated useful output power greater than 50 W.
The voltage band according to IEC 60519-1 relates to the mains supply voltage. In some circuits of the dielectric heating installation, the d.c., a.c. or radio-frequency voltages can have greater values.
Note: In accordance with CISPR 11, there are preferred frequencies designated by the international telecommunication Union for use as fundamental ISM frequencies.
BS EN 60519-9 on high-frequency dielectric heating installations is useful for:
Dielectric heating installation is an installation comprising the dielectric heating generator, high-frequency transmission lines (if any) and the dielectric applicator.
BS EN 60519-9 provides best industry guidance on protective measures in the dielectric heating generator, protective measures for use in dielectric applicators and tests for protective measures.
Thus, compliance with BS EN 60519-9 can improve the heating efficiency and ensure the safety of dielectric heating installations. As a result, you can achieve adequate protection against direct contact and minimize risk of potential hazards to the operating personnel from flames, explosion or projection of matter.
BS EN 60519-9:2005 supersedes BS EN 60519-9:1996 which is withdrawn. BS EN 60519-9:2005 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 60519-9:1996. These include:
