What is ISO 1436 - Rubber hose assemblies about?  

ISO 1436 is an international standard that discusses the specifications for rubber hoses and hoses assemblies.  

ISO 1436 specifies requirements for six types of wire-braid-reinforced hoses and hose assemblies of nominal size from 5 to 51 which helps in assembling and producing better quality rubber hoses. 

ISO 1436 also specifies the hose of nominal size 63 for types 2SN and R2AT, and the hose of nominal size 76 for type 2SN. They are suitable for use with: 

• Oil-based hydraulic fluids HH, HL, HM, HR, and HV as defined in ISO 6743-4 at temperatures ranging from −40 °C to +100 °C 
• Water-based fluids HFC, HFAE, HFAS, and HFB as defined in ISO 6743-4 at temperatures ranging from −40 °C to +70 °C 
• Water at temperatures ranging from 0 °C to +70 °C 

Note: ISO 1436 does not include requirements for end fittings. It is limited to requirements for hoses and hose assemblies.

Reinforcement is the strength of all hydraulic hoses. This wire-braid reinforced helps in determining the working pressure of hoses. 

ISO 1436 will help you in determining the material of hoses that are resistant to the oil or water-based hydraulic fluids and assemble those hoses which are verified. The relevant proof pressure and the relevant minimum burst pressure are used in reducing the failures while assembling the hoses with the help of hydrostatic requirements.

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS ISO 1436:2020 supersedes BS ISO 1436:2017, which is withdrawn. BS ISO 1436:2020 includes some technical changes as follows: 

• R1ATS and R2ATS have been updated to R1AT and R2AT, respectively, throughout the document 
• The previous Table 1 has been split into Table 1 and Table 2; all following tables and references have been renumbered 
• Table 1 and Table 2 have been updated with dimensions from EN 853:1996 
• The maximum working pressure, proof pressure, and minimum burst pressure have been updated to standardize to the most common pressures, where needed, in Table 4 
• Some of the marking requirements have been revised in Clause 9 (the old Clause 8, Marking)
