What is ISO 10896‑6 about?   

ISO 10896‑6 specifies safety requirements and the means for their verification for Rough-terrain trucks and their systems. 

ISO 10896‑6 specifies safety requirements and means of verification for tilting operator’s cabs of trucks covered by ISO 108961 and ISO 108962, where the seat index point height (SIP) is lifted not more than 400 mm when the cab is fully tilted. 

ISO 10896‑6 only deals with significant hazards, hazardous situations, or hazardous events relevant to the tilting cab affixed to trucks. 

In addition, the tilting operator's cab should be designed according to the principles of ISO 12100 for relevant but not significant hazards which are not dealt with by this part of ISO 10896.  

Who is ISO 10896‑6 for?  

ISO 10896‑6 is of relevance, in particular, for the following stakeholder groups representing the market players with regard to machinery safety: 

• Machine manufacturers (small, medium, and large organizations) 
• Health and safety bodies (regulators, accident prevention organizations, market surveillance, etc.) 
• Machine users/employers (small, medium and large organizations) 
• Machine users/employees (e.g., trade unions, organizations for people with special needs) 
• Service providers, e.g., for maintenance (small, medium, and large organizations) 

Why should you use ISO 10896‑6?   

ISO 10896‑6 is one of a set of standards produced by ISO/TC 110/SC 4 as part of its program of work regarding standardization of terminology, general safety, performance, and user requirements for rough-terrain trucks. The machinery and systems concerned and the extent to which hazards, hazardous situations, or hazardous events are covered are indicated in the scope of this part of ISO 10896. Tilting operators’ cabs need to comply with the safety requirements and/or protective/risk reduction measures recommended in ISO 10896‑6. ISO 10896‑6 specifies the appropriate technical measures to eliminate or reduce risks arising from the significant hazards.  

ISO 10896‑6 helps to ensure trust in the reliability of these tilting operator cabs systems by demonstrating their safety and effectiveness, and ultimately the protection of the operators who use them.
