The IEC 60034 is a European Standard series that covers rotating electrical machines and their requirements.
BS EN IEC 60034-4-1 is one of the parts of the IEC 60034 series that specifies the methods are intended to be used for machines having an excitation winding with slip-rings and brushes for their supply. Synchronous machines with brushless excitation require special effort for some of the tests. For machines with permanent magnet excitation, there is limited applicability of the described tests, and special precautions should be taken against irreversible demagnetization.
BS EN IEC 60034-4-1 is applicable to three-phase synchronous machines of 1 kVA rating and larger.
Note: BS EN IEC 60034-4-1 does not cover axial-field machines and special synchronous machines such as inductor type machines, transversal flux machines and reluctance machines.
Note: It is not intended that BS EN IEC 60034-4-1 be interpreted as requiring any or all of the tests described therein on any given machine. The particular tests to be carried out are subject to agreement between manufacturer and customer.
BS EN IEC 60034-4-1 on rotating electrical machines is applicable to:
A stator, rotor, and the air gap between them make up a rotating electrical machine. Windings can be found on both the stator and the rotor. The stem connects to the motor and any other loads, and the rotor is put into it.
BS EN IEC 60034-4-1 provides you with the specifies the methods are intended to be used for machines having an excitation winding with slip-rings and brushes for their supply.
If you are a manufacturer or designer of rotating electrical machines. adopting the methods of determining electrically excited synchronous machine quantities from tests in accordance with BS EN IEC 60034-4-1 can enable you to build high-quality and durable rotating electrical machines that meet the safety requirements.
The guidelines in BS EN IEC 60034-4-1 assist you in achieving the reliability of rotating electrical machines that provide excellent performance and efficiency and help you to reduce energy losses while energy conversions.
BS EN IEC 60034-4-1:2018 supersedes BS EN 60034‑4:2008, which is withdrawn. the following are significant technical changes with respect to BS EN 60034‑4:2008:
