What is ISO 12353‑1 about?  

ISO 12353‑1 is part one of the multi-series standard that establishes a vocabulary relating to the investigation and analysis of road traffic accidents and to the application of accident data. 

ISO 12353‑1 also lists other, commonly used terms in the domain. 

Who is ISO 12353‑1 for? 

ISO 12353‑1 on traffic accident analysis- vocabulary is useful for: 

• First respondents 
• Accident investigators 
• Traffic authorities  
• Law enforcement agencies  

Why should you use ISO 12353‑1?  

A vocabulary relating to the investigation and analysis of road traffic accidents and to the application of accident data is necessary. It allows all the stakeholders involved in the investigation and analysis of road traffic accidents to understand and communicate the data and procedures related to the accident effectively. 

ISO 12353‑1 defines the terms related to classification and inclusion, accident descriptive elements and data collection, crash analysis and reconstruction and aggregate data analysis and interpretation. 

What’s changed since the last update?  

ISO 12353‑1 is the second edition that cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 12353‑1:2002), which has been technically revised. 

The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
