ISO 15500‑9 is part nine of the multi-series standard that specifies tests and requirements for the pressure regulator, a compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system component intended for use on the types of motor vehicles defined in ISO 3833.
ISO 15500‑9 is applicable to vehicles (mono-fuel, bi-fuel, or dual-fuel applications) using natural gas in accordance with the ISO 15403 series.

ISO 15500‑9 provides a pressure impulse test to evaluate the performance of the components that may suffer from the effects of an instantaneous increase in pressure. In normal service, this may happen for example, when filling gas in an empty system or when a solenoid valve opens the flow of gas to an empty fuel line. Previous tests have revealed that certain designs cannot cope with these instantaneous pulses and the components tend to bend or jam.
ISO 15500‑9 is the third edition that cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 15500-9:2012), which has been technically revised. ISO 15500‑9 also incorporates the Amendment ISO 15500-9:2012/Amd.1:2016.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
