BS EN 13201-4 is a European standard that covers methods for measuring lighting performance in road lighting, ensuring efficiency, visibility and performance in road lighting maintenance and development applications.
BS EN 13201-4 specifies measurement conditions and procedures for measuring the photometric quality parameters of road lighting installations, i.e., the quantities that quantify their performances in accordance with EN 13201-2 lighting classes. BS EN 13201-4 includes a methodology to evaluate the road lighting performances considering tolerances in the design parameters is described in the informative Annex A.
Note: BS EN 13201-4 does not cover parameters used for quantifying the energy performance of road lighting installations.
BS EN 13201-4 on measuring lighting performance in road lightings applies to:
By allowing pedestrians and automobiles to see each other, road lighting promotes safety. A lighting class is defined by a set of photometric requirements aiming at the visual needs of certain road users in certain types of road areas and environments. Assessment of performance ensures safety and visibility in road applications. BS EN 13201-4 establishes conventions and procedures for the characterization based on measurements of road lighting installations considering the photometric quality parameters, i.e. the set of quantities that characterize a lighting class.
BS EN 13201-4 provides users guidance on preliminary information of road lighting system measurement, measurement conditions, photometric measurements, measurement of non-photometric parameters, tolerance analysis and test report, enabling users to accurately measure lighting performance. BS EN 13201-4 gives users advice on the use and selection of luminance meters and illuminance meters for applications, ensuring the classification, usability and applicability in road lighting.
With obedience and compliance of BS EN 13201-4, users can accurately measure the performance metrics, enabling users to design road lightings to ensure stable operability and prevention of accidents in different seasons and environments.
BS EN 13201-4:2015 supersedes BS EN 13201-4:2003, which is now withdrawn. Changes in BS EN 13201-4:2015 include
