What is ISO 18278-2 about? 

ISO 18278 discusses resistance welding weldability. ISO 18278-2 is one of the parts of the documents that provide specific test procedures for the determination of the acceptable welding current range and the electrode life. 

ISO 18278 is applicable for the evaluation of the weldability of assemblies of uncoated and coated sheets of individual thicknesses from 0,4 mm to 6,0 mm.

Why should you use ISO 18278-2? 

Spot welding is used to weld two pieces of metals together. If they are not welded properly, the joints may become detached or lose. 

ISO 18278-2 helps you evaluate the weldability of assemblies of uncoated and coated sheets of individual thicknesses from 0,4 mm to 6,0 mm. to improve the efficiency of resistance welding and related products. 

The ISO 18278-2 weldability guidelines give you the opportunity to improve the weldability of resistance spot welding, which in turn improves the quality of resistance welded joints.ISO 18278-2 covers welding equipment, preliminary adjustments, determination of the welding current range, estimation of electrode life, and test reports. The procedures described can be used to evaluate the effect of: 

• Electrode material, shape, dimensions, and electrode cooling 
• Material types and thicknesses and coatings being welded 
• Welding conditions and welding equipment

BS EN ISO 18278-2:2016 was systematically reviewed by technical experts to ensure its continued market relevance. This standard is a technical revision of BS EN ISO 18278-2:2004 which has been withdrawn.
