PD IEC TS 62257 is an international standard that discusses renewable energy and hybrid systems for rural electrification. The IEC 62257 series intends to provide different players involved in rural electrification projects (such as project implementers, project contractors, project supervisors, installers, product suppliers, etc.) documents for setting up renewable energy and hybrid systems with a.c. voltage below 1 000 V and d.c. voltage below 1 500 V. PD IEC TS 62257‑9‑7 is one of the parts in a series of documents that specifies a technical specification, and the criteria for selecting and sizing inverters suitable for different off-grid applications integrating solar as an energy source.
As well as off-grid system, PD IEC TS 62257‑9‑7 can also apply to inverters where a utility grid connection is available as a backup for charging batteries, but it is not intended to cover applications in which inverters synchronize and inject energy back into a utility grid, even though this capability may incidentally be a part of the functionality of the inverters.
