BS EN 15954 is a European standard that discusses the trailers and associated equipment for railways. BS EN 15954-1 is the first part of a multi-part series that outlines the technical requirements to minimise the specific railway hazards of trailers and associated equipment, that can arise during the commissioning, the operation, and the maintenance of trailers when carried out by the specification given by the manufacturer or his authorised representative.
BS EN 15954-1 applies to trailers that are not intended to interact with operating signalling and control systems.
Additional requirements can apply for running on infrastructures with narrow gauge or broad-gauge lines, lines of tramways, railways utilising other than the adhesion between the rail and rail wheels, and underground infrastructures.
BS EN 15954-1 also, applies to trailers and associated equipment that are in the working configuration are partly supported on the ballast or the formation.
Note 1: BS EN 15954-1 does not apply to the following:
Note 2: BS EN 15954-1 does not establish the additional requirements for the following:
Note 3: These trailers are not intended to be vehicles as defined in the Interoperability Directive and are not permitted to run on the railway lines open to normal traffic. If this is required, they will need to be authorised or placed into service as set out in the Interoperability Directive 2008/57/EC.
Note 4: These trailers are not designed or intended for operating signalling and control systems and are only intended to work and run under special operating conditions specifically designated by the infrastructure manager.
BS EN 15954-1 on the running and working requirements of trailers and associated equipment is useful for:
A trailer is a non-self-propelled machine that can be hauled on rail wheels. The road-rail trailer with additional road wheels enables the trailer to be hauled on both rails and ground.
BS EN 15954-1 assist you with guidelines on various trailer types like a trailer with continuous brake, trailer with the parking brake, trailer with parking/break-away brake only, road rail trailer, and attachment with rail wheels.
BS EN 15954-1 guides with railway specific safety requirements or measures on gauge, interaction with the infrastructure, running safety, prevention of derailment, stability of overturning, prevention of overturning, running gear, rail wheel suspension, and more for evaluating the proper running and working performance of trailers and associated equipment.
BS EN 15954-1 also provides marking of the trailers, user information, verification of the conformity to the requirements, and safety measures. This assists you in manufacturing efficient trailers that have global acceptance in the market.
With obedience and compliance to BS EN 15954-1, you can improve the running and working of trailers and associated equipment. In addition, minimise the specific railway hazards of trailers and associated equipment.
