BS EN 12299 is a European standard that covers ride comfort for passengers. It outlines the methods for quantifying the effects of vehicle body motions on ride comfort for passengers, as well as vehicle assessments concerning ride comfort in order to ensure the appropriate level of ride comfort for passengers.
The aim is to help train service providers to provide comfort to their passengers by ensuring there are relatively low levels of acceleration and roll velocity.
BS EN 12299 applies to passengers travelling in railway vehicles on railway lines, including main, secondary, and suburban lines. It can also be used as a guide for other railway vehicles, for example, locomotives, metros, trams, etc.
Note 1: Other effects, not included in BS EN 12299, are associated with higher acceleration levels health risk effects: physical damage and psychological deterioration.
BS EN 12299 on the measurement and evaluation of ride comfort for passengers is relevant for:
Ride comfort is the complex sensation produced during the application of oscillations and/or inertia forces, via whole-body transmission caused by the railway vehicle’s body motions.
BS EN 12299 assists you with measuring and evaluating your passengers' exposure to vibrations, the characteristics of railway vehicle motions, mean comfort, continuous comfort, comfort on curve transitions, and comfort on discrete events.
With compliance to BS EN 12299, you can properly measure and evaluate the ride comfort for passengers, resulting in greater customer satisfaction and reducing the health and safety risks associated with ride discomfort.
