BS EN 16334-2:2020

What is BS EN 16334‑2 about? 

BS EN 16334‑2 is the second part of the BS EN 16334 series of documents that specifies the characteristics of the Passenger Alarm System (PAS) for urban rail.  

NOTE: BS EN 16334‑2 covers the PAS fitted to the passenger-carrying Urban Rail rolling stock and specifies: 

• The safety-related requirements 
• The functional requirements of PAS triggered by passengers 
• The requirements for the communication channel between passengers and the driver or Operations Control Centre (OCC) 
• The requirements for the functional behaviour of the PAS 
• The requirements for the degraded modes management 
• The requirements for the Passenger Alarm Device (PAD) and PAD area. 

NOTE: BS EN 16334‑2 is applicable to the categories I to III of Urban Rail rolling stock defined in CEN/CLC Guide 26: 

• (I) Metros 
• (II) Trams 
• (III) Light rail.

Why should you use BS EN 16334‑2?  

An alarm system for passengers is used to initiate appropriate measures in case of an emergency situation. BS EN 16334‑2 provides the system overview, architecture and interfaces of the PAS with its functions and the interaction with passengers and/or on-board operation staff. 

BS EN 16334‑2 provides the functional and safety requirement for PAS to permit passengers to alert the driver or the operations control centre (OCC) in case of emergency situations. 

BS EN 16334‑2 provides general requirements of platform detection for physical detection. 

Overall, BS EN 16334‑2 guides you on the PAS provided on the coaches for use by travelling passengers in case of emergency or in a fire event or malfunctioning doors.
