BS EN 15313 is a European standard that discusses in service and off-vehicle wheelset maintenance for railways to ensure the safety of passengers by minimizing the hazards.
To ensure safety and interoperability, BS EN 15313 provides:
BS EN 15313 applies to wheelsets and axle boxes complying with the EN 13103, EN 13104, EN 13260, EN 13261, EN 13262, EN 13979-1, EN 13715, EN 13749 that comprises the axle fitted with wheels of diameters greater than or equal to 330 mm and axle boxes with bearings and grease.
BS EN 15313 also applies to wheelsets:
Note 1: All dimensions in BS EN 15313 are in millimeters (mm).
Note 2: It is necessary to describe in a specific document the tasks to be performed to maintain wheelsets within the limits defined therein.
Note 3: The specific values and criteria are defined in an appropriate maintenance plan.
BS EN 15313 on maintenance of In-service and off-vehicle wheelset is useful for:
Medium wheelset maintenance is off-vehicle wheelset maintenance without change of wheels, combined with bearing overhaul. Heavy wheelset maintenance of in-service wheelsets comprises all the operations which are performed on wheelsets between medium and/or heavy maintenance levels. Heavy wheelset maintenance off-vehicle wheelset maintenance with the change of wheels, combined with bearing overhaul.
BS EN 15313 guideline assists you with maintenance, definition of a wheelset, illustrations of a wheelset, associated components, associated defects, requirements, operations, in-service wheelset maintenance, off-vehicle wheelset maintenance, action to be taken on any wheelset after an incident in service or when not covered by the maintenance plan, and equipment not subject to directive 2008/57/EC for in-service and off-vehicle wheelset maintenance for railways.
With compliance and obedience of BS EN 15313:2016, you can prolong the life of in-service and off-vehicle wheelset for railways by providing proper maintenance methods. In addition, ensure the safety of passengers by minimizing the hazards.
