BS EN 45545 is a European standard that discusses fire protection on railway vehicles. BS EN 45545-7 is the seventh part of the multi-part series that outlines requirements for flammable liquids and liquefied petroleum gas installations, e. g. for traction, auxiliary power units, heating, or cooking, to cover the objectives defined in EN 45545-1 to ensure the safety of passenger at the time of fire emergencies.
The measures and requirements specified in BS EN 45545-7 aim to protect passengers and staff in railway vehicles by preventing a fire from occurring and spreading by leakage of flammable liquids or gases.
Note 1: BS EN 45545-7 does not apply to technical liquids themselves, e. g. hydraulic liquid and transformer oil, except where guidance is given as to dealing with spillages, leakage, and spray generation.
Note 2: It is not within the scope of BS EN 45545-7 to describe measures for flammable gases, other than liquefied petroleum gases (LPG).
Note 3: It is not within the scope of BS EN 45545-7 to describe measures that ensure the preservation of railway vehicles in the event of a fire.
BS EN 45545-7 on requirements for flammable liquid and flammable gas installations is useful for:
Fire protection is necessary for railway vehicles to prevent and protect against the destruction caused by fire. Developing and implementing fire protection protocols in railway vehicles is not only required by law but is important for everyone’s safety.
BS EN 45545-7 assists you with requirements for flammable liquids and gas tanks ie tanks for flammable liquids and portable liquefied petroleum gas installation for catering purposes. BS EN 45545-7 also provides guidelines and assists you concerning pipework and associated fittings like requirements for the pipework containing flammable liquids, flexible connections, gas distribution system requirements and ventilation devices for tanks for flammable liquids.
EN 45545-7 guides you regarding the installation of combustion engines, heaters and auxiliary equipment and liquefied petroleum gas installations to ensure their safety against fire.
With obedience and compliance to BS EN 45545-6, you can improve fire protection against flammable liquid and flammable gas installations. In addition, ensure the safety of passengers at the time of fire emergencies.
