BS EN 13272 discusses railway applications. BS EN 13272‑2 is the second part of the BS EN 13272 multi-series and discusses electrical lighting in an urban rail vehicle. Urban rail transit is an all-encompassing term for various types of local rail systems providing passenger service within and around urban or suburban areas. This includes metro systems, trams, light rail, and local rail systems.
BS EN 13272‑2 set out the requirements for interior lighting for urban rail units as defined in the CEN-CENELEC Guide 26. BS EN 13272‑2 applies only to new units. The application of BS EN 13272‑2 for retrofitting of existing units is subject to agreement between contractors. BS EN 13272‑2 also defines the requirements for testing and conformity assessment.
Note 1: BS EN 13272‑1 does not address lighting installed in instruments or controls.
Note 2: BS EN 13272‑1 does not address lighting installed for indication or effect purposes, including flashing lights and decorative lighting.
Note 3: The requirements for interior lighting for heavy rail vehicles can be found in EN 13272–1.
Note 4: The requirements for cab instrument lighting for heavy rail units can be found in EN 16186–2.
BS EN 13272-2 on interior lighting for urban rail units is useful for:
Illumination in passenger coaches is a necessary amenity. It not only makes travel convenient but also secure. The darkness inside coaches may encourage crimes such as thefts, robberies, etc. The quality of lighting influences visual performance, performance attitude, safety at work, and general well-being. The lighting for rolling stock in urban rail systems enables the relevant visual tasks to be performed, e.g., it supports passenger safety onboard and during passenger transfer.
BS EN 13272-2 defines performance requirements and recommendations for electrical lighting systems in the interiors of public transport urban rail vehicles, as defined in the CENCENELEC Guide 26, i.e., metro systems, trams, light rail, and local rail systems, under all operating and emergency conditions. BS EN 13272‑2 helps you with guidelines and performance requirements to provide adequate interior lights in urban rails. BS EN 13272‑2 helps you to keep your passenger safe and make their travel convenient.
BS EN 13272-2:2019 supersedes BS EN 13272:2012, which is withdrawn. BS EN 13272-2:2019 includes a technical change with respect to BS EN 13272:2012 which is:
