What is ISO 24025-1 about?

ISO 24025-1 is the first part of a multi-series of international standards on sulfone polymer moulding and extrusion materials which covers designation system and basis for specifications.

ISO 24025-1 establishes a system of designation for sulfone polymer moulding and extrusion materials, including polysulfone (PSU), polyethersulfone (PESU) and polyphenylsulfone (PPSU), that can be used as the basis for specifications.

NOTE: ISO 24025-1 is not intended to imply that materials having the same designation necessarily give the same performance and does not provide engineering data, performance data or data on processing conditions that can be required to specify a material for a particular application and/or method of processing.

Why should you use ISO 24025-1?

Sulfone polymers are high-performance thermoplastics that have SO2 or sulfone moiety linkages and are high-heat amorphous thermoplastics.

The designation system for sulfone polymer thermoplastics is given in ISO 24025-1 according to the standardized pattern which is sub-divided into five data blocks comprising the information as:

• Abbreviated terms used for information on the major component (≥75 % by mass) in the composition of the polymer in data block 1
• Code-letters for fillers and reinforcing materials in data block 2
• Code-letters used in data block 3
• The set of conditions used to anneal specimens in block 4 before determination of the temperature of deflection under load is represented by the temperature of deflection under load, melt mass-flow rate, charpy notched impact strength, tensile modulus, and yield stress
• Data block 5 is a way of transforming the designation of a material into a specification for a particular application
