ISO 23153 discusses plastics. ISO 23153-1 is the first part of the multi-series ISO 23153 and discusses the designation system and basis for specifications. ISO 23153-1 establishes a system of designation for polyetheretherketone (PEEK) moulding and extrusion materials which can be used as the basis for specifications. Polyetheretherketone polymer chains are composed of phenylene rings linked in (1,4) position by a sequence of two ether groups followed by one ketone group.
The grades of PEEK plastics are differentiated from each other by a classification system based on appropriate levels of the designatory properties
ISO 23153-1 applies to materials ready for normal use in the form of powder, granules or pellets, unmodified or modified by colourants, fillers, reinforcements or other additives.
Note 1: ISO 23153-1 is not intended to imply that materials having the same designation necessarily give the same performance.
Note 2: ISO 23153-1 does not provide engineering data, performance data or data on processing conditions that can be required to specify a material for a particular application and/or method of processing.
ISO 23153-1 on polyetheretherketone (PEEK) moulding and extrusion materials of plastic is useful for:
PEEK is an aromatic polyether, a high-performance thermoplastic used in coating, insulation of high-performance wire and cable, and moulded parts. Designations of some properties of PEEK has taken into consideration under ISO 23153-1 are:
Over these properties specifies the quality and protection aspects of PEEK for the better performance of the product and improving credibility and consumer confidence.
