ISO 11298 is an International Standard that discusses plastics piping systems for renovation of underground water supply networks. ISO 11298-3 is the third part of the series that covers close-fit lining systems.
ISO 11298-3 in conjunction with ISO 11298-1, specifies requirements and test methods for close-fit lining systems intended to be used for the renovation of water supply networks, which transport water intended for human consumption, including raw water intake pipelines.
ISO 11298-3 applies to pipes and fittings, as manufactured, as well as to the installed lining system. It is applicable to polyethene (PE) pipes of either solid wall single layer or co-extruded layer construction, which is reduced in the factory or on-site to provide a close-fitting independent or interactive pressure pipe liner, as well as associated fittings and joints for the construction of the lining system.
ISO 11298-3 is applicable to PE pipes, fittings and assemblies intended to be used at an operating temperature of 20 °C as the reference temperature.
Note 1 : For applications operating at constant temperatures greater than 20 °C and up to 40 °C, see ISO 4427‑1:2007, Annex A.
Note 2: It is not applicable to PE coated pipes having a peelable, contiguous, thermoplastic additional layer on the outside of the pipe.
ISO 11298-3 on close-fit lining systems is relevant to:
The primary objective of plastic piping systems is to efficiently regulate underground water delivery networks. Appropriate appliance usage of fittings and pipes is crucial for the efficient functioning of the overall system which minimises health risks and hygiene concerns.
The requirements and test methods under ISO 11298-3 can help you assess and evaluate material, physical, mechanical and geometrical characteristics of lining with the specified pipes and fittings.
If you are a manufacturer of close-fit lining systems and components, compliance to ISO 11298-3, can help demonstrate the reliability, durability and performance of your products. As a result, incidents of leakages, cracking, surface irregularities and overall product failure can be avoided.
