ISO 3183 is an international standard on petroleum and natural gas industries that discusses the best procedures and specifications required for manufacturing high-quality steel pipes for pipeline transportation systems. ISO 3183 specifies requirements for the manufacture of two product specification levels (PSL 1 and PSL 2) of seamless and welded steel pipes for use in pipeline transportation systems in the petroleum and natural gas industries.
ISO 3183 supplements API Spec 5L, 46th edition (2018), the requirements of which are applicable with the exceptions specified in ISO 3183.
NOTE: ISO 3183 is not applicable to cast pipes.
ISO 3183 on petroleum and natural gas industries is relevant to:
PSL is the short name of product standard level. The product standard level of line pipe has PSL1 and PSL2, also we could say the quality standard divided in PSL1 and PSL2.
ISO 3183 provides guidance on PSL 2 pipe for European onshore natural gas transmission pipelines, manufacturing procedure, acceptance criteria, chemical composition, tensile properties, tolerances for diameter, wall thickness, length, and straightness, tolerances for the weld seam.
ISO 3183 exemplifies the required chemical composition and tolerances that help you achieve precision in terms of product functionality.
As a user of ISO 3183, you can manufacture high-quality seamless and welded steel pipes. ISO 3183 provides you with comprehensive information useful throughout the process of production.
With obedience and compliance to ISO 3183, you can be ensured that the products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets.
BS EN ISO 3183:2019 supersedes BS EN ISO 3183:2012+A1:2018, which is withdrawn.
