BS EN 358 is a European standard on personal protective equipment that discusses belts and lanyards to ensure the work positioning and prevention of falls from a height.
BS EN 358 applies to belts and lanyards intended for work positioning or restraint. BS EN 358 specifies the requirements, testing, marking, and information supplied by the manufacturer.
Note1: BS EN 358 does not cover restraint lanyards with a fixed length that are not integrated into a belt.
Note2: Restraint lanyards with a fixed length that are not integrated into a belt are covered in EN 354.
BS EN 358 on the belts and lanyards for work positioning or restraint is useful for:
When work is undertaken at a height is of short duration, or for technical reasons, the provision of a working platform, suitable barriers, and other similar safeguards is impracticable, then the prevention from falling from a height while correctly performing the related work activity can be achieved by using personal fall protection equipment.
BS EN 358 assists you by providing the requirements that are intended either to prevent the user from reaching a position where a fall can occur (restraint) or secure the user safely in position at the point of work in such a way that the user can share and control his weight between the waist and the feet.
With compliance and obedience to the requirements, design, testing, and marking provided by BS EN 358 you can enhance the performance of the personal fall protection equipment and ensure work positioning and prevention of falls from a height.
BS EN 358:2018 supersedes BS EN 358:1999, which is withdrawn. BS EN 358:2018 has made some technical changes compared to the previous edition BS EN 358:2018. These include:
