BS EN ISO 12402-8:2020

What is ISO 12402‑8 about?  

ISO 12402‑8 is eighth in the series of documents on personal floating devices. ISO 12402‑8 specifies the safety requirements and test methods for accessories used for personal flotation devices (PFDs). 

ISO 12402‑8 deals with personal floatation devices (PFDs) for persons engaged in activities, whether in relation to their work or their leisure, in or near water.

ISO 12402‑8 on personal floatation devices is useful for: 

• PFD manufacturers 
• PFD designers 
• Quality control personnel 
• PFD supplier/retailer 

Why should you use ISO 12402‑8?

What is changed since the last update?  

BS EN ISO 12402‑8:2020 supersedes ISO 12402‑8:2006. BS EN ISO 12402‑8:2020 has some technical changes. These include: 

• Amendment of terms and definitions in clause 3, amendment of specifications and test methods 
• Addition of multi ‑chamber buoyancy, addition of lifting loop 
• Amendment of emergency position-indicating lights (Clause 5.10), amendment of Annex A “Classification of personal flotation devices” 
• Addition of PFDs with PLDs, the marking with the number of the standard has been deleted
