BS EN 1651 discusses paragliding equipment. BS EN 1651 specifies safety requirements and test methods for paragliding harnesses. BS EN 1651 applies only to harnesses for paragliders. The intermediate attachment of the system between the harness and the paraglider does not form part of this standard.

Paragliding is a sport where safety should always be a priority. The quality of the paragliding harness plays a key role in its safety. The pilot uses the harness to stand or sit and cover long distances. Nowadays harnesses also work as backpacks so pilots do not have to carry one.
BS EN 1651 provides safety requirements and test methods that include pointers about attachment points and strap finishes, among others. For example, all free ends of the harness straps need to be finished with a folded hem making it impossible for the straps to pass through the adjustable buckles. The harness shall be made by accepted practice for textile assemblies.
All attachment points on the harness that may be used for attachment of the paraglider or emergency parachute shall be clearly marked in a contrasting colour to the other webbing. The attachment points for the emergency parachute shall not be in a position lower than the attachment points of the paraglider and shall be positioned symmetrically on the harness and all attachment points provided on the harness. The harness is attached to the wing through baffled cells. Airbag protectors or foam is below the seat that provides protection during failed launch or landing.
